Hello
I am on a quest for a decent condition Marshall Guitar Amp.
If any of you have or know anyone who has the following up for sale please let me know:
1. JCM 800 or 900 (50 or 100W Head) 2 Channel
2. 4x12" Cab, preferably the 1960 reissue with vintage speakers in, or the standard 4x12" that goes with the above heads.
Im learning all this guitar jargon at the moment cos im usually used to basses so bear with me if ive slipped up on the models and what their specs are.
ALSO
I am after a USA Telecaster in either Black,Sunburst or Natural. I doubt anyones got one for sale but let me know if you have.
If anyone can give me advice on the Marshall stuff itd be appreciated. I know what to look for with the guitar but their amps are new to me. Am i right in thinking the 900's are one of the best series amps Marshall have released?
Cheers

no. the 900 series was one of the worst amp lines marshall made. your best bet at a low price is a jcm 800 2203 (100w) or 2204 (50w)
OR if yu've got more to spend, get a jcm 2000 dsl, cuz it would be more versatile.
DONT buy a jcm 900

Gaz i wouldn't limit your choice to just marshalls - there are better amps for half the money out there. Stuff like old Laneys, Sound City, Sovteks et al generally have more character and are cooler anyway.
JCM 800's tend to have a more compressed slightly less overdriven sound to the 900. they only have 1 channel though so you won't be able to get that clean-to-distortion i think you want...Also they're reissuing the 2203 (Ed's amp i think?) at about 800-900 quid so if you're gonna buy, buy now as the new price of the reissues will increase the older ones by a fair bit.
900's do high gain like a bastard. the older ones (early 1990's i beleive) have one channel and then another "channel" which is basically the boost for leads etc. the newer ones are supposed to be able to do clean really well though, but i've not actually heard them properly.
Lee's got a jcm 2000 ain't he? so you should have made your mind up about that from his. my only gripe with it is that the clean and distorted channel have the same EQ, limiting versatility a bit...
50 watt marshalls distort at lower volumes than 100 watt ones which means 100 watt marshalls can stay clean at louder volume.
If you want proper sparkly clean then my advice is to stay away ,personally, as there are way better "clean sounding" amps out there (fender, simms-watts, hi-watt etc.)not that the marshall sounds bad clean, but compared to say a fender it is a bit muddy.
its all down to choice though ain't it.
Oh and check out the master volume lead series (50 or 100 watt) from the late 70's - i saw a 50 watt head in electro music for ?295 and they're supposed to sound sweet.
i am a fucking geek.
so are you actually.

my problem with the 900 series is the kinda buzzy nature of the sound, same as the 2205 or 2210.
i say get an 800 and an od/dist pedal u like.

id say fuck it, get a battered old amp head for ?50, and a mesa boogie v-twin pedal.
now that would sound sweet
SWEEEEEEEE-TAH
i was gonna go for that or maybe go for the rack option.
id say a 2x120w poweramp, then effects wise go for maybe a digitech Quad4, something cheap but no distortion and fucking ace reverbs/chorus/whatever-takes-your-fancy.
then take you pick at a preamp (your distortion sound).
if you couldnt decide (as almost every fucker in the world make them) then you could go for a 'fake'(read as - POD) or something. but id want a multitude of tubes, so fuck fake tubes (read as - shit, POD, wank etc).
but then again pods sound nice through a 4x12....
the choice is yours, yer.....spoilt for choices.
